Mail Server : Filter Spam Emails In Outlook

Note : If you are using Outlook 2000 the steps are slightly different, please have a look at this page for exact instructions on how to get into the mail rules options, then simply apply the same rules in this guide.

As you may have noticed, some of the emails which are coming into your mailbox on the new email server have the word [SPAM] before the subject. These emails have been classified by are spam filters as junk email. Follow the steps below to automatically move these emails into a Spam folder when they are downloaded into Outlook.

1. Open Outlook. Using your left mouse button click on Tools > Rules and Alerts

2. Click on "New Rule" to bring up the New Mail Rule dialog menu.

3. In the "Step 1 : Select a Template" box choose the second option down "Move Messages with specifc words in the subject to a folder"

4. In the "Step 2 : Edit the rule description" box, click on the blue link "specific words" and in the new box type in [SPAM] and then click "Add" and then "Ok"

5. Again in the "Step 2 : Edit the rule description" box click on the blue link "specified" and click on "Junk E-Mail" folder and click on "OK". The box should look as below:

 

6. Press the "Finish" button and then press ok. Outlook is now ready to filter spam emails.

7. Be sure to check the Junk E-Mail folder occasionally to be sure that no legitimate emails may have been classified as spam.
